Comcast To Hike Rates 3.3% For Cable Tv Customers

Staff Writer

Comcast subscribers soon will have to shell out a little moremoney for their television cable service.

Across-the-board rates for cable service will increase 3.3percent effective Aug. 1.

"We've worked hard to hold down price adjustments, even given theimpact of higher programming costs," said Robert Grove, Comcast'sdirector of Public Relations and Community Affairs for the KeystoneRegion.

The rate increase will not immediately affect all customers,Grove said.

"These adjustments will not impact a majority of our customersbecause they currently receive services as part of a promotionaloffer," Grove said. "During the length of that promotion, your ratedoesn't change. About half of our customers are in some kind of deallike that."

Grove said he could not break down in dollars and cents what therate hike will mean for individual customers.

"It's impossible to go into that; everybody has differentpackages," he said.

He said Comcast wants to give customers the best service possibleby continuing to make "investments in next-generation technology."

"Recently, we added more than 50 HD, SD and 3D channels, increased Internet speeds and introduced new interactiveapplications and content that customers want and value - likeXfinity TV with over 150,000 online choices," he said.

Headquartered in Philadelphia, Comcast serves about 24 million TVcustomers, more than 17 million Internet customers and more than 8million telephone customers in 39 states.
