Capital Bank of Raleigh, NC had a busy year: a new headquarters, a replacement platform for branch capture, a just-constructed operations and data center, and integrating a recent acquisition. But the banks executives realized that the dollars saved on copy paper and pens count just as much as the ones saved by automating transactions, and they needed to save every dollar possible in a year when net income dropped and the $1.52 billion institution wrote down $2.8 million in assets in the fourth quarter of 2007.
